This week we had Mr. Smith, approximately 50 years of age, complaining of left shoulder pain that prevents him from putting pressure on the shoulder, sleeping on the shoulder, lifting the arm over his head, and putting his shirt on.
I did a standard shoulder range of motion exam and found that raising his arm laterally increase his pain after 90°. He also had swelling and redness on the lateral edge of the shoulder with extreme sensitivity to touch.
He stated that most of his pain was on the lateral aspect of the shoulder and the front aspect of the shoulder.
I treated him with instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization to help reduce the inflammation to the lateral part of her shoulder and to his chest muscles, general mobilization of the shoulder, adjustment of his acromioclavicular joint followed with shoulder exercises. I finished his treatment with electrical stimulation to help calm any discomfort he might've had.

After the 2nd visit the patient stated that he was feeling great and was able to raise his arm approximately 50% more than he did when he first came in. The swelling and pain to touch had decreased over 50%.  His sleep had improved and he was able to put his shirt on with less discomfort.

Patient did very well with our multi modal approach and was able to return to normal life within 1 week of care.
